The new Southern Queensland Country Food and Wine Development Plan<\/strong> aims to establish Southern Queensland Country as an iconic Australian food region.<\/p>\n

The plan, facilitated by Rose Wright from consultants Knowledge Transfer Services, was unveiled recently by Minister for Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries John McVeigh.<\/p>\n

He said he was was excited at the possibilities and to see how the plan\u2019s goals would help increase production in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud to stand here as a Darling Downs born and bred boy to unveil this plan. We know the great delicacies, wines and experiences that the Southern Queensland Country region has to offer and now it\u2019s time to let the rest of the country know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Newman Government wants to reinvigorate tourism as one of the four pillars of Queensland\u2019s economy. Tourism based on regional food, wine, agricultural experiences and the rural Australian way of life can play a big role in this because it offers a range of opportunities for regional communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI applaud the collaboration which was needed to produce the roadmap for the region because simply put, it\u2019s hard to achieve a goal unless you have a plan and know where you\u2019re headed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Food and Wine Development Plan does just this for Southern Queensland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Wright said the plan would help to establish Southern Queensland Country as one of Australia’s iconic and celebrated food regions.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe Southern Queensland Country region is making a strategic investment in the future of their economy by facilitating links between agriculture, food production and distribution, and tourism,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe leaders in business and government have collaborated to create a joint vision for their future and a clear plan on how they will achieve it together.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy establishing an accredited Regional Food System, the SQC region will ensure that their producers and local enterprises benefit from increased yield and added value opportunities that come from linking food, wine and tourism.\u201d<\/p>\n

The plan is an outcome from the SEQC Tourism Opportunity Plan and can be downloaded from the Toowoomba holidays website<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Note: Since the recent merger of local tourism organisations, the South Burnett is now part of the Southern Queensland Country tourism region.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
