A fascination with soundwaves has led to an unusual exhibition at the Kingaroy Art Gallery this month.<\/p>\n

“Music Of The Spheres” by Queensland College of Art graduate Ali Bezer officially opened on Saturday. It features sculptures, two series of paintings on glass, another series on painted sandpaper and two series of linocuts.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most impressive piece is a large sculpture, “Solarwaves”, made of aluminium, bitumen, sand and acrylic paint that occupies most of the main gallery.<\/p>\n

The sculpture is just one-third of the complete piece but it was all the Gallery could accommodate.<\/p>\n

Ali, who recently completed a PhD at Griffith University, has been creating art for more than 10 years and hopes to move on to a professional career in academia now that she’s completed her doctorate.<\/p>\n

She said the exhibition was her response to a wide variety of sounds, including ‘alien’ noises such as the radio waves produced whenever the sun spits out solar flares, the inspiration for her “Solarwaves” sculpture.<\/p>\n

Other pieces represent her response to the sounds of wildlife and other sonic vibrations in the air.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Art Team curator Wayne Brown said he had invited Ali to exhibit after seeing her work at another exhibition several years ago and buying a piece for his own collection.<\/p>\n

“We’re very excited by this exhibition,” Wayne told the crowd at Saturday’s official opening.<\/p>\n

“It’s a great way to start the year.”<\/p>\n

Fifteen-year-old Booie artist Kathleen Gogerly also has a selection of her works on show at the Gallery this month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kathleen is the Kingaroy Art Gallery’s first youth artist for 2016 and 27 of her artworks fill the small front gallery.<\/p>\n

She attends Kingaroy State High School and says she has always been interested in art.<\/p>\n

Kathleen began taking lessons with well-known South Burnett artist Cary McAulay two years ago.<\/p>\n

“I have lived painting ever since,” Kathleen said.<\/p>\n

“I work mainly with acrylics, focussing on landscapes and animals but occasionally venture into watercolour and charcoal.”<\/p>\n

Kathleen has entered works in the now-defunct annual Nanart art competition, where she won first and second prizes in the Junior division, but her show at the Kingaroy Art Gallery is her first public exhibition.<\/p>\n
