Wondai’s traditional Christmas Eve Carnival – a major fundraiser for the local Show Society – was blessed with balmy weather which attracted a big crowd to Coronation Park.<\/p>\n

The constant spinning of the two prize wheels, and the wafting carols from the Wondai & District Band who were perched on the balcony of the Hotel Cecil, added to the festive atmosphere in the park.<\/p>\n

Long queues at the barbecue stand confirmed the popularity of the traditional Wondai Christmas Eve fare.<\/p>\n

Children played on equipment in the park while waiting patiently for the arrival of Santa and his bags of free ice blocks direct from the North Pole.<\/p>\n

Santa somehow always manages to fit in a visit to Wondai despite it being his busiest night of the year;\u00a0 in fact, it has become a regular part of his schedule.<\/p>\n

This is the 69th year that Wondai has hosted a Christmas Eve Carnival and the 68th year that it has been organised by the Show Society.<\/p>\n

This year’s Carnival was also the first where all the prizes on offer had been donated by sponsors, which the Show Society’s Dennis Potter was quick to praise.<\/p>\n

“This is the first time this has ever happened, and I think everyone who has contributed to this year’s Carnival deserves a very big ‘thank you!’ from everyone,” he told the crowd.<\/p>\n
