Residents of the Ironput, Burrandowan and Chahpingah areas gathered at Ironpot Hall on Saturday night to renew old friendships and discuss the outlook for the coming season.<\/p>\n

The occasion was a free “Down With The Drought” community night, courtesy of the South Burnett Regional Council and the State Government.<\/p>\n

140 guests got to enjoy a free dinner prepared by Judy Crawford Catering, followed by entertainment from popular South Burnett musician Lloyd Back.<\/p>\n

There were also $1000 in lucky door prizes to be won, along with vouchers from businesses that support the community.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, each family went home with a goodie bag that included a first aid kit.<\/p>\n

The get together was the second-last in a series of similar events that have been held in rural parts of the region over the last few months.<\/p>\n

The final “Down With The Drought” community night will be held at Wooroolin Hall on Saturday, January 16.<\/p>\n

SBRC Communities Portfolio chair Cr Ros Heit said after the Council had successfully applied for a $65,000 grant from the Department Of Communities\u2019 Community Drought Support program, she had asked local organisations in the Durong, Mondure, Cloyna, Maidenwell, Ironpot, Kumbia and Booie areas to organise functions for residents in their areas.<\/p>\n

The primary aim of the nights is to let residents who live in more sparsely populated parts of the region meet and talk with their neighbours in a relaxed and informal environment.<\/p>\n

“We applied for this grant because we know many residents living in rural parts of the South Burnett have been doing it tough the last few years,” Cr Heit said.<\/p>\n

She thought the functions had been very well received and had helped revive spirits.<\/p>\n

“We’ve applied for funding again for 2016 and I hope we get it,” she said.<\/p>\n
