Boondooma Homestead is one of two South Burnett community groups to receive a grant in the latest round of the State Government’s Anzac Centenary Community Grants Program<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Two South Burnett community groups have been awarded grants from the State Government in the third round of the Anzac Centenary Community Grants program.<\/p>\n

The Kumbia and District Memorial School of Arts has been awarded $5640 for the restoration Kumbia’s war memorial, while the Boondooma Museum and Heritage Association has been awarded $2793 to produce “Boondooma Station World War One Anzac Stories”.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said today the State Government was providing funding of $752,750 for the 46 projects approved in the latest round.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The community support and passion shown by Queenslanders in round three made the grants assessment process extremely difficult,” the Premier said.<\/p>\n

“It was great to see so many applications dedicated to commemorating Queensland\u2019s role in the First World War.<\/p>\n

“The successful applicants include local exhibitions and community research exploring the lives of Queenslanders who epitomised the Anzac values of mateship, courage, integrity and sacrifice.”<\/p>\n

The Kumbia project will include the replacement of the memorial’s marble panel, re-painting, and the installation of two bronze plaques inscribed with the names of local servicemen and women who lost their lives in WWI, WW2 and other conflicts.<\/p>\n

Boondooma Homestead’s project will involve construction of a transportable display featuring photos and personal details of soldiers who were connected to Boondooma Station and enlisted in WWI.<\/p>\n

The soldiers\u2019 names will also be commemorated on a bronze plaque, and a WWI-themed poetry writing competition will be organised, with all entries to be published in a book.<\/p>\n

In all, 180 Queensland community groups have so far shared in $4 million in grants from the program.<\/p>\n
