The State Emergency Service is urging Queenslanders to get “tech savvy” and take advantage of the SES Assistance smart phone app.<\/p>\n

SES Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Jeffrey said the app was a great way to skip the call centre queue following a natural disaster but still make sure the request for help was recorded in the system.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy having a second way to contact the SES, this app not only decreases calls to 13-25-00 but also assists in capturing most, if not all the information before SES volunteers arrive on scene,\u201d Mr Jeffrey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis additional method for requesting SES assistance embraces new technology and is in line with the way so many of us communicate via smart devices now.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe app is so easy to use and gives people a record of the request made, which can be very useful amongst the chaos that often follows in the aftermath of a severe weather event.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe user will be given a reference number after lodging their request and will be able to update their information via the 13-25-00 contact centre, if required.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Jeffrey said most SES tasks were not quick jobs and could take some time before the volunteers can attend to their flood or storm damage.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage members of the public to be patient and understand that SES prioritise jobs assisting community members who cannot help themselves first,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI ask the public to remember that the SES is made up of volunteers dedicated to helping others and the SES will always put the safety of its volunteers first during adverse weather conditions.<\/p>\n
