Yarding numbers and prices have been well up at cattle sales at the Coolabunia Saleyards over the past four weeks.<\/p>\n

Natural Resources portfolio chair Cr Kathy Duff told Wednesday’s Council meeting that a Fat and Store sale held at the council’s saleyards on November 17 had a yarding of 186 cattle, with prices up an average $30 per head over the previous sale.<\/p>\n

One bull made a record 505 c\/kg, selling for $4343.<\/p>\n

Steers sold up to 349 c\/kg, heifers to 329 c\/kg, and the sale price for cows and calves went as high as $1782.<\/p>\n

On November 28, the annual Cream Of The Crop Droughtmaster female sale had a yarding of 54 with an average sale price of $2702 per head.<\/p>\n

And a sale on December 1 attracted 512 head where steers sold to a top of 363 c\/kg, heifers to 312 c\/kg and cows and calves for up to $1510.<\/p>\n

Cr Duff said the increase in yardings was due to a combination of good cattle prices and vendors wanting to sell prior to Christmas.<\/p>\n

“The current cattle prices – with some rain around – is a really good news story for many South Burnett cattle producers,” Cr Duff said.<\/p>\n
