November 26, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rural firefighters are warning Queenslanders to be vigilant with heightened fire conditions predicted across much of the State in the next few days.<\/p>\n

Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) Director of Operations Gary McCormack said precautions were being taken by firefighters to prepare for potential bushfires as fresh and gusty winds combined with hot temperatures impacted on fire conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a high to very high fire danger across most of Queensland,\u201d Mr McCormack said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder these conditions, warm temperatures combined with increased winds create heightened fire conditions where fires may develop quickly, spread rapidly and become more intense.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re asking residents and travellers to take extra care, be alert and help prevent bushfires.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEarly intervention by fire crews is critical, so residents are urged to report any unattended or suspicious fires by calling Triple Zero (000) immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr McCormack said while some parts of the State had recently received rainfall, now was not the time to be complacent.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s vital people are aware of any actions that could spark a fire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever throw cigarette butts out of the car window and always be careful when operating machinery in grassed areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cLandowners who have conducted burns must make sure residual fires are contained so that they will not escape.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone wanting to light a fire in the open should seek advice about permits and current conditions from their local fire warden.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr McCormack said it was crucial residents prepared their homes and properties and stayed informed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they haven\u2019t already, I urge residents to finalise their preparations and visit the RFSQ website<\/a><\/strong> to download a Bushfire Survival Plan, so that no one is caught off guard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
