St Mary’s Catholic College’s incoming principal Angela Myles with outgoing principal Michael Nayler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Meet Angela Myles, the new principal who will be taking over at St Mary’s Catholic College on January 1.<\/p>\n

Angela, her husband Rodney and four-year-old daughter Grace are moving to Kingaroy; Grace will be enrolled in Prep at the school next year.<\/p>\n

Angela has spent 13 years at Shalom Catholic College in Bundaberg, including the past five years as Deputy Principal.<\/p>\n

Before that she taught at St John’s in Dubbo.<\/p>\n

She was born in Mudgee in central NSW.<\/p>\n

“I am a country girl and I am looking forward to getting back to that again,” she told southburnett.com.au<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When she left school she studied accountancy and worked with KPMG in Sydney, but the call to become a teacher was too strong.<\/p>\n

“It was the best move I ever made. I always wanted to be a teacher but for some reason I did not head in that direction at first,” she said.<\/p>\n

So she enrolled at the Australian Catholic University and completed a post-graduate Diploma of Education.<\/p>\n

Angela visited Kingaroy last week as part of the familiarisation process with her new school.<\/p>\n

She has already met with the St Mary’s P&F Committee and the School Board, and attended the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner at Cassis.<\/p>\n

The final day for current principal Michael Nayler is December 4, but he will be “on call” until Angela starts.<\/p>\n

He’s heading off to become principal at St Michael’s Secondary College at Merrimac on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

The school has about a thousand students, almost double the number at St Mary’s.<\/p>\n

He has overseen many changes at the school in the four years he has been in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

The school was staffed for 290 students when he arrived; the projected number of students for 2016 is 555.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And Angela will be taking over a building site when she moves in.<\/p>\n

Michael said he had hoped to have the current building program at the school completed on his watch, but the construction was about 10 weeks behind because of weather delays.<\/p>\n

A two-storey building under construction facing Kent Street will contain six classrooms and a student services room; it will be serviced by a lift.<\/p>\n

A music room is also under construction.<\/p>\n

Michael said the school was also applying for funding for three more primary classrooms which he hoped would be available for 2017.<\/p>\n

He said he wanted to thank the South Burnett community for their help over the past four years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“They have been so welcoming and kind – the principals of the other schools, the mayor, Deb Frecklington … everyone. They have been amazing,” he said.<\/p>\n
