The official launch of a new history book detailing the stories behind the names on the historic Colinton War Memorial was launched on Saturday.<\/p>\n

A service was held at the historic sandstone and marble memorial at Colinton before guests moved to the Soldiers Memorial Hall at Moore for the launch of “The Colinton Boys”.<\/p>\n

About hundred people gathered to hear author Elizabeth de Lacy explain the research that went into her work, which has been released by Brisbane Valley Heritage Trails as part of the World War I centenary activities.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann did the honours.<\/p>\n

The book shares the history of the 42 young men from Colinton who enlisted in World War I and whose names are listed on the marble inset of the memorial.<\/p>\n

“There were only about 55 people on the electoral roll at Colinton, which shows the contribution that the little country town made at that time,” Mr Neumann said.<\/p>\n

The Colinton War Memorial is one of the oldest in Queensland.<\/p>\n

It was unveiled by Mr H.P. Somerset MLA on January 18, 1917.<\/p>\n

“The Colinton Boys” will be available for purchase from the Brisbane Valley Heritage Trails website<\/a><\/strong> and local Visitor Information Centres.<\/p>\n
