The culture of volunteering is alive and well in Wondai as proven by Thursday’s “thank you” afternoon tea at Wondai Diggers Club for Meals on Wheels helpers.<\/p>\n

Wondai MOW has more than 70 volunteers on its books.<\/p>\n

Patron Percy Iszlaub praised the group.<\/p>\n

“Meals on Wheels is one of the great services in our community; few, if any, are better. And it has been so enduring, maintained for so many years,” he said.<\/p>\n

The former Wondai Mayor said the benefit from MOW also flowed both ways, “giving help to the people giving help”.<\/p>\n

Cr Ros Heit said Wondai MOW was a “wonderful community” of people.<\/p>\n

“So many people rely on Meals On Wheels and it may well be the only visitor they get every week.”<\/p>\n

Wondai MOW treasurer Michelle Smith has been with the service since it began in town more than 30 years ago and is the longest-serving volunteer.<\/p>\n

One of the latest is MOW secretary Glenda Ireland who only recently joined the organising committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
