This cemetery was almost washed away in the 2011 floods, but has since been restored to its original design.<\/p>\n<p>The tour will also include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A visit to the site of the former <strong>Taromeo School<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>An optional visit to Ralph and Liz Tenant\u2019s <strong>Vintage Tractor and Car Museum<\/strong> ($5 admission or $8 with a Devonshire Morning Tea)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A visit to <strong>Jesse\u2019s Well<\/strong>, a historic watering spot, which will include a viewing of the <strong>Taromeo Sawmill<\/strong>, one of the area&#8217;s pioneering logging and sawmilling companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A visit to the <strong>Sandy Fire Tower No. 5<\/strong> &#8211; a timber forestry tower on a hill in the Blackbutt Range, followed by a visit the site of the former <strong>Taromeo Pub<\/strong> nearby<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A visit to Benarkin State Forest&#8217;s <strong>Hill 60 Memorial<\/strong>, which is in the form of the forestry look-out post; a small cairn at the base of the structure displays a bronze plaque which dedicates the memorial to the courageous soldiers who fought in the &#8220;Battle of Hill 60&#8221; at Gallipoli in August 1915, as well as the pioneering forestry workers whose vision and hard work is responsible for today&#8217;s hoop pine plantations in the area; the monument is a joint commemorative effort between the Queensland Department for Primary Industries and the RSL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A visit to <strong>Harry\u2019s Hill<\/strong>, where timber cutter Harry Vine lived in his meagre shanty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A tour around historic <strong>Benarkin<\/strong>, where early pioneers settled in the 1880s; Benarkin was known as &#8220;Well Holes&#8221; prior to 1912, and Benarkin is an aboriginal word for &#8220;Blackbutt tree&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Members of the public are very welcome to come along and enjoy a free and informative morning with Association.<\/p>\n<p>However, for planning purposes, an RSVP to Noeleen Bird on (07) 4163-0413 or <a href=\"mailto:nbird6@bigpond.com?subject=Taromeo Tagalong Tour 06-Nov-15 (from southburnett.com.au)\"><b>by email<\/b><\/a> would be greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_125971\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-125971\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151104-taromeo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-125971\" title=\"20151104 Taromeo Station\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151104-taromeo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151104-taromeo.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151104-taromeo-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-125971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the surviving buildings at Taromeo Station &#8230; Taromeo, established in 1842, was one of the first stations in the South Burnett and opened the way for European colonisation of the area<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Blackbutt Heritage Association will be running a tour of historic Taromeo this Friday, November 6<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":125972,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[402,3],"tags":[218,83,112],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
