{"id":125654,"date":"2015-11-02T21:49:12","date_gmt":"2015-11-02T11:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=125654"},"modified":"2020-09-24T13:58:48","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T03:58:48","slug":"locals-star-in-rep-cricket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2015\/11\/02\/locals-star-in-rep-cricket\/","title":{"rendered":"Locals Star In Rep Cricket"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_125762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-125762\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/cricketphoto.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-125762\" title=\"South Burnett U12s\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/cricketphoto.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/cricketphoto.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/cricketphoto-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-125762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The victorious South Burnett U12 team in Gayndah (Photo: Michelle Newton)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>November 2, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was a great weekend for representative cricket with the South Burnett XI bringing home a Goodchild Shield win and victories to the South Burnett U12s and Wide Bay U17s.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>South Burnett kicked off their 2015-16 Goodchild Shield campaign by downing Fraser Coast on Sunday at Lyle Vidler Oval.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fraser Coast won the toss and elected to bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Lehman Brunjes (52) and Jason Webber got the locals off to a great start.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Sippel (71 not out) and Troy Dennien (52 not out) helped South Burnett post an impressive total of 4\/256 from the 50 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Fraser Coast also started quickly but the South Burnett bowlers gradually got on top as the innings progressed, bowling out the visitors for 176 in 47.1 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Best of the South Burnett bowlers were opener Taylor Herrmann (2\/25 off seven overs) and slow bowlers Ashley Sippel (2\/24 off eight) and debutante Tom Carney &#8211; who came into the side at very short notice &#8211; who finished with 2\/18 off 7.1 overs.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>At Gayndah, a South Burnett U12s side took on Central Burnett U12s on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Burnett batted first to notch up a good target of 153 runs.<\/p>\n<p>They then bowled and fielded well to get Central Burnett all out for 111.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>South Burnett players Matt Patroni and Chris Medcalf helped guide Wide Bay to victory at the two-day SQCC U17 McPherson Shield Carnival held at Gatton at the weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Wide Bay played South East Queensland and snatched a two-run win.<\/p>\n<p>Wide Bay batted first and were all out for 158.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley Anderson (Fraser Coast) 41 and Sam Pearson (Bundaberg) 22 not out were the best of the batsmen.<\/p>\n<p>In reply,\u00a0 SEQ fell short with 156.<\/p>\n<p>Best of the Wide Bay bowlers were Vasili Exharos (Gympie\u00a0 2\/29),\u00a0 Matthew Patroni\u00a0 (South Burnett 1\/25), Samuel Pearson (Bundaberg 1\/27), Tristan Finn (Fraser Coast 1\/22), Kye Leggett (Bundaberg 1\/11) and Bradley Anderson (Fraser Coast 1\/22).<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Wide Bay played Darling Downs &amp; South-West.<\/p>\n<p>Wide Bay were all out for 209.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Thompson (Fraser Coast) 80, Chris Medcalf (South Burnett) 24 not out and Kye Leggett (Bundaberg) 20 were the best of the batsmen.<\/p>\n<p>In reply Darling Downs were all out for 114. Sent\u00a0 back in, they made 4\/56.<\/p>\n<p>Best of the Wide Bay bowlers were Vasili Exharos (Gympie) 3\/38 and 4\/19; Chris Medcalf (South Burnett) 2\/7,\u00a0 Tristan Finn (Fraser Coast) 2\/14, Kye Leggett (Bundaberg) 2\/16 and Matthew Patroni (South Burnett) 1\/24.<\/p>\n<p>Wide Bay won by 39 runs and took home the U17 McPherson Shield.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In local cricket, Murgon Crusaders hosted Wondai Wolves in an A Grade game played on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the Wondai field was unfit for play the game was moved to the Murgon Stables field.<\/p>\n<p>Wondai won the toss and sent Crusaders in.<\/p>\n<p>Murgon finished with 7\/217.\u00a0 Best of the batsmen were Jason Webber 110 (retired) and Troy Dennien 48.<\/p>\n<p>Best of the Wolves&#8217; bowlers were Derek Sander (2\/26 off five overs), Torren Anderton (2\/34 off eight) and David Stimpson (2\/50 off eight).<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Wondai made 8\/167 with Wayde Wust (63) and Derek Sander (32) being the top scorers.<\/p>\n<p>Murgon bowlers Tom Patton and Jamian Currin each took two wickets off their nine overs.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In the second A Grade match on Saturday, Kingaroy RSL Services took on Warriors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warriors batted first and were all out for 196 off 43 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Kieran Askin (81), Hayden Wieck (40) and Steve Heness (25) were the top-scorers.<\/p>\n<p>Caylan Brown took five wickets in five overs for just 24 runs to rip through the Warriors line-up.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Hourn (2\/27 off eight overs) and Mark Schmidt (1\/18 off four overs) also took handy wickets for Kingaroy RSL.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Kingaroy RSL Services took 36 overs to make the target, finishing 6\/202.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne Kelly (63),\u00a0 Brady Roberts (47) and Jacob Arden (26 not out) were best with the bat.<\/p>\n<p>Best of the Warriors bowlers were Matt Nesbitt (2\/31 off five overs), Taylor Hermann (2\/58 off nine) and Luke Smith (1\/34 off six).<\/p>\n<p>Kingaroy RSL Services won by four\u00a0 wickets with nine overs to spare.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In B Grade, Kingaroy RSL Services defeated\u00a0<strong>Cherbourg.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Top scorers for Cherbourg were Tom Langton (42) and Chris Osborn (17).<\/p>\n<p>For Kingaroy, Karl Freeman (46), Adam Geiger (37) and Louis Fairbairn (37) boosted Services&#8217; scoreboard.<\/p>\n<p>Barry Fisher Snr was the best of the Cherbourg bowlers, finishing with 1\/14 off two overs.<\/p>\n<p>Kingaroy bowlers Lleyton Brown (3\/9 off seven) and Adam Geiger (3\/25 off six) both took three wickets.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Walters (2\/36 off eight overs) and Kate Ferling (1\/18 off four) also did damage.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In the second B Grade game, Kumbia Rattlers played Murgon Diggers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kumbia finished 2\/314 after their 40 overs with Warren Cross (130) and Clayton Crawford (76) starring with the bat.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Nixon (1\/22 off three overs) was the pick of the Murgon bowlers in difficult conditions.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Diggers were all out for 78 off 20 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Shane Sippel (24) and Renee Irvine (19) both made handy starts.<\/p>\n<p>Tavis Hartwig (4\/17 off eight overs) was the best of the Kumbia bowlers.<\/p>\n<p>Kumbia won by 236 runs<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In the third B Grade\u00a0 game, Wondai Wolves won the toss against the Nanango Scorpions and chose to bat.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wolves posted a good score of 9\/167.<\/p>\n<p>Top-scorers were Edwin Simpson (53), Michael Evans (30 not out) and Craig Hanford (29).<\/p>\n<p>Best of the Nanango bowlers were J. Early (3\/13 off six overs), Joel Smallwood (2\/4 off four overs) and Dexter Calvert (2\/27 off eight).<\/p>\n<p>Wayward bowling by the Wolves (19 wides) weren&#8217;t enough to help Nanango in reply, and they were all out for 64.<\/p>\n<p>G. Jones (17), Joel Smallwood (11) and B.
