Division 2 candidate and Blackbutt postmaster Emeric Charles<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Blackbutt postmaster Emeric Charles has put up his hand as a candidate at the March 2016 Local Government elections.<\/p>\n

Mr Charles was born in France, came to Australia in 1980 and was naturalised in 1984.\u00a0 He has been postmaster at Blackbutt since he bought the Licensed Post Office in 2009.<\/p>\n

Division 2 is currently held by Cr Deb Palmer, who is not expected to recontest the Division at the election.<\/p>\n

Mr Charles told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> he believed he could offer a strong voice for the local community.<\/p>\n

“I lived in Brisbane for several years before discovering the beautiful town of Blackbutt in 2005, the gateway to the magnificent South Burnett region,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I am passionate about community projects demonstrated by my current involvement with several community organisations such as treasurer and Blackbutt Hall Manager for the Blackbutt Benarkin Community Council Inc, treasurer for the Blackbutt Tennis club and member of the Blackbutt Show Society, Blackbutt RSL\/CMC, and Nanango RSL.<\/p>\n

“With my involvement and experience with these organisations, I bring good knowledge of the community dynamics needed to build a successful neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

“As a local business owner, as well as a Director of the LPOGroup – a franchisees association dealing with national issues in Australia Post – I am experiencing the challenges of change in our society and I can see that we need to be open and positive about the future for our region and everyone involved.”<\/p>\n

Mr Charles said this was the first time he had ever stood for any sort of political office, however he had a wealth of business experience, ranging from being a mortgage broker to a bus driver.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I am a mechanical fitter by trade,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said there were a lot of exciting changes taking place in Blackbutt at the moment, including $3 million of drainage work for Coulson and adjacent streets and the relocation of the Memorial Hall to make room for a supermarket.<\/p>\n

“In the near future, (there will be) the streetscapes and beautification of the main street that I wish to see planned with community consultation,” he said.<\/p>\n

“As your councillor first of all, I will do my upmost to be contactable.”<\/p>\n

Mr Charles said he would be guided by the following principles:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Is it the truth?<\/p>\n

2. Is it fair to all concerned?<\/p>\n

3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?<\/p>\n
