It’s going to be a big day at Moffatdale on Saturday with the centenary celebrations at Moffatdale State School and the opening of the new Brydges Park nearby.<\/p>\n

The school celebrations kick off at 9:00am and will run until 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Ex-students returning for the celebration will be invited to inspect the classrooms from 9:00am-10:00am.<\/p>\n

The official proceedings will get underway at 10:30am with the welcome and speeches.<\/p>\n

Special guests will be Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss, who will present the school with a commemorative plaque; Cr Kathy Duff from the South Burnett Regional Council, and Education Queensland Assistant Regional Director Debbie Hails.<\/p>\n

Current school students will put on a display of singing, followed by music by country singer Dean Perrett.<\/p>\n

The cutting of the cake will be done by the oldest ex-student and the youngest student present.<\/p>\n

Proceedings will pause while Cr Duff officially opens the new Brydges Park nearby, on land donated by the Brydges family from Bridgeman Downs vineyard.<\/p>\n

Teacher Rebecca Payne told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> that the oldest ex-pupil expected to attend was Keith Haager, 91.<\/p>\n

Moffatdale State School currently has 53 students; back in 1915 it had 11 when it first opened.<\/p>\n

Rebecca said the original school building was still standing at the site, but it had been converted into the School Office.<\/p>\n

She said planning for the day had been underway for more than a year.<\/p>\n

There will be a mini-market as well as food stalls, a vintage car display and memorabilia for sale.<\/p>\n

Mementos available to buy include the 1915-2015 Year Book,\u00a0 a cook book, and bottles of commemorative port bottled by Moffatdale Ridge.<\/p>\n

After the official proceedings, school photos have been scheduled, with ex-students to pose year-by-year.<\/p>\n

A licensed bar will run from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n
