St John\u2019s Lutheran School students have been participating in an unusual talent contest recently.<\/p>\n

The inaugural “St John\u2019s Got Talent” is the initiative of music teacher Bill Sharp.<\/p>\n

Students have been practicing in preparation for the trials, which were held over the last few weeks.<\/p>\n

Each morning tea has seen various performances in the senior and junior divisions.<\/p>\n

The student audience has welcomed the opportunity to watch the performers and have witnessed everything from lip syncing to singing, musical performances, dancing and martial arts displays.<\/p>\n

Mr Sharp has been encouraged by the breadth of talent the students have displayed. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“It takes a lot of courage to get up in front of your peers to sing or dance,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Most of these students are not receiving any outside teaching in these areas, but are simply showing their love of performing.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been very impressed with the varied performances the students have put together.”<\/p>\n

Bill said the process included the students nominating for a category, and then doing the actual performance over the two weeks the trials are run.<\/p>\n

“There will be a number of students who will be invited to perform their routines and songs to the whole school on Friday, November 6 before the regular Assembly,” Bill said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve had some parents drop by at morning tea to enjoy the entertainment too.<\/p>\n

“We know that many will join us on that Friday for the finals where some prizes and certificates will be awarded.”<\/p>\n

Mr Sharp is having his first year at St John\u2019s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It has been great to watch students perform items that they enjoy alongside their weekly music class lessons,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I think the competition will get bigger each year as students become more confident at performing in front of a crowd.”<\/p>\n
