Murgon’s new million-dollar swimming complex was opened with a splash on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

After South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann unveiled a plaque, Cr Kathy Duff sounded a siren and all the waiting children lining the poolside jumped in.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said the news that Murgon Pool needed urgent repairs had come out of the blue in 2014 but Council was always determined to have the complex open again for this summer.<\/p>\n

“A lot of our infrastructure was built in the ’50s and ’60s, and like a lot of us it is getting to need some TLC,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann thanked Member for Callide Jeff Seeney for the State Government’s assistance in funding the project.<\/p>\n

The former government topped up the South Burnett Regional Council\u2019s planned $650,000 investment with an extra $450,000.<\/p>\n

The Orcas swimming club was also successful in getting a $35,000 grant for a new grandstand.<\/p>\n
