Smithfield’s Barb and Don Madden will be hitting the pavements of New York on November 1 –\u00a0 and they’re looking for a local charity to support!<\/p>\n

The husband and wife team have already raised $3000 with donations from Feed Central, Ken Mills Machinery and Smithfield Cattle Co.<\/p>\n

They are now calling for South Burnett not-for-profit community groups to apply and let them know why they need the money.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They have never run a marathon before but Barb thought it would be a great way to celebrate Don\u2019s 50th birthday and give the couple a little challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cLittle did I know, this would be a life-changing event for both of us,\u201d Barb said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur 12-week marathon program has become our new way of life. The 3:30am starts and covering anywhere up to 35km before work is now our new norm.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiving in Proston, there is only one suitable road to run along, which includes multiple cattle grids and negotiating various forms of wildlife.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrink stops have been established at the 11km and 21km marks, which involve water bottles tied with wire over a fence post.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tim Ford from Feed Central liked the concept of two lot feeders from Proston running the New York Marathon, and he wanted to sponsor Barb and Don to run this event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe all thought, this money would be better utilised by donating it to a community group within the South Burnett,\u201d Barb said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo all we ask is for any interested incorporated not-for profit organisation to contact us and outline who they are, what they do and why they would like $3000.\u201d<\/p>\n

All the South Burnett not-for-profits need to do is :<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Provide your organisation’s name and proof of incorporation. Only incorporated organisations need apply.<\/em><\/p>\n

2. In 500 words or less, tell us what your organisation does, why you need the funds and who will benefit. Applications with more than 500 words will not be considered.<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Applications to be emailed to barb@smithfieldcattleco.com<\/a><\/strong> by Friday, October 24.<\/em><\/p>\n

4. YouTube clips are acceptable.<\/em><\/p>\n
