Owners of home swimming pools only have to the end of November to ensure their pool fences comply with State laws.<\/p>\n

Housing Minister Leeanne Enoch said the pool fence laws were introduced\u00a0 in 2010 to help keep children safe, however pool owners were given five years to comply.<\/p>\n

“We know that thousands of pools may still not measure up,\u201d Ms Enoch said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFencing is a crucial first line of defence when it comes to protecting young children from drowning.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal councils will begin policing pool fences from December 1, and owners who do not comply could face on-the-spot fines starting at around $800.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pool owners must also obtain a safety certificate if they plan to sell or lease the property.<\/p>\n
