June Wenzel’s grand-daughter Ava has a rare medical condition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A beautiful thing happened in a small Kingaroy street last weekend … the neighbours came together to help raise funds to assist a tiny baby living in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

The baby is Ava, aged six months, the grand-daughter of Darryl and June Wenzel who live in the small cul-de-sac, Barwick Street.<\/p>\n

Ava was born with the very rare Goldenhar Syndrome<\/strong><\/a> – or Oculo-Auriculo-Vertebral (OAV) syndrome – a congenital defect which can affect a child’s hearing, sight and facial structure. She is going to require operations at least until age 20.<\/p>\n

June and Darryl wanted to help support Ava in a small way so they organised a garage sale. When their neighbours heard about the plan, they also organised sales. Others chipped in with cash donations.<\/p>\n

So on Saturday, Barwick Street suddenly boasted three adjacent pavement sales.<\/p>\n

“With the donations, we have made nearly $700, which is really exciting,” June said.<\/p>\n
