Police throughout Queensland will be patrolling school zones to make sure motorists do the right thing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The RACQ is reminding motorists to slow down, with school zones back in force as students return to class for Term 4 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said motorists should also be alert for children riding bikes, getting out of vehicles and crossing roads.<\/p>\n

\u201cChildren can be unpredictable so it\u2019s up to motorists to be alert and prepared for anything, and always abide by the speed limit,” Ms Smith said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrivers must remember to reduce their speed to 40km\/h in school zones on weekdays.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeed limits are set for a reason: to give motorists time to react to the unexpected and to reduce vehicle stopping distances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Smith said if motorists were speeding through school zones they should expect to get caught.<\/p>\n

The RACQ said parents dropping their children off at school should:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Park safely on the same side of the road as the school, if possible, and let children out on the kerb side<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Avoid reversing, particularly if visibility is hindered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Never double park<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Never call to children from across the road; cross the road to them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
