The RACQ today released a list of the top ten most commonly stolen cars in Queensland, with the Holden Commodore the first choice of thieves over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n

Executive Manager Insurance Communications Mike Sopinski said thieves generally targeted older, less secure makes and models and vehicles not properly secured.<\/p>\n

“Our 2015 Car Security Index reveals many Queenslanders aren\u2019t utilising basic security measures, with 28.5 per cent of motorists admitting they don\u2019t always lock their cars,” Mr Sopinski said.<\/p>\n

“The research also reveals motorists are often letting their guard down at service stations, with 58.1 per cent saying they don\u2019t always lock their vehicle while refuelling.”<\/p>\n

In a sign of the times, the research also showed 28.1 per cent admitted they wouldn\u2019t investigate or take notice of a car alarm sounding.<\/p>\n

“Many are taking car security seriously, however, with close to half (43.7 per cent) saying they considered the security features of the car they last purchased,” Mr Sopinski said.<\/p>\n

Things are also getting tougher for car thieves.<\/p>\n

Fity-two per cent of Queensland vehicles now have an engine immobiliser, and forty-six per cent have a car alarm.<\/p>\n
