Nanango netballers Katelyn Wolski<\/strong> and Portia Jones<\/strong> and Kingaroy’s Taylor Crossley<\/strong>, Kayla Greenslade<\/strong> and Cassandra Firman<\/strong> are getting ready to impress at the Netball Queensland Academy’s \u00a0“Screening and Development” weekend.<\/p>\n

All five were chosen as part of the Wide Bay Regional Academy program from a hoard of the region\u2019s best up and coming netballers after trials earlier this year.<\/p>\n

They will be joined by Emma Pressler-McHugh, Liz Watson, Demi Pressler-McHugh, Keely Dodd, McKenzie Mott, Beth Royan and Casey Daniel from Bundaberg to represent the Wide Bay Regional Academy at this weekend’s combined training and competition sessions, which runs from today through the September 30.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year, all academy athletes have taken part in specialist training sessions and development programs aimed at improving their netball skills.<\/p>\n

The Netball Queensland regional academy program is in its fifth year of providing a development pathway for skilled young athletes, as well as coaches, umpires and administrators.<\/p>\n

The Wide Bay Academy athletes will join netballers from Netball Queensland\u2019s 11 other regional academies to participate in the development and screening weekend, serving as the first selection trial for State underage teams for 2013.<\/p>\n

Netball Queensland Regional Membership Support Unit Officer Jennifer Coker said the development weekend was the jewel in the crown for the 144 athletes from the 12 regions of Queensland.<\/p>\n

“The Netball Queensland Regional Academy program is giving our talented regional athletes the chance to gain better access to high-level development opportunities,” Ms Coker said.<\/p>\n

“The screening and development weekend gives all academy athletes, coaches, umpires and administrators the opportunity to come together to share and expand on their netball experiences.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
