South Burnett Regional Council says work on the region’s two major infrastructure projects are well underway, with significant progress at both the Kingaroy Wastewater Treatment Plant and Gordonbrook Water Treatment Plant.<\/p>\n

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said the projects would provide Kingaroy with treatment plants to meet not only the current environment licence requirements, but would also provide for 20 to 30 years of growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach plant has adopted modern technology and in both cases some Australian firsts, with a focus on sustainability, efficiency and cost minimisation,\u201d Mayor Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy project is about 40 per cent complete with all major civil structures underway or finished.<\/p>\n

The Gordonbrook project has made progress on site but a lot of off-site fabrication works are also being undertaken. These works will be evident on the ground over the next few months.<\/p>\n

The projects are being constructed by Aquatec Maxcon Pty Ltd.<\/p>\n

AQM and their sub-contractors have employed around 25-30 local people directly to help in construction and in total have applied around 50,000 man hours to the projects so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well, 36 locally based companies have benefited directly by working on or supplying products to the projects, injecting valuable money into the local economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth project teams are performing really well and the quality of work has been great,\u201d Council\u2019s Manager of Water and Wastewater Nerida Airs said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil is working closely with the construction teams to ensure that the projects remain on track for time and budget, and that we also leave a long-lasting positive legacy.<\/p>\n

“We have been fortunate to obtain significant State Government funding for both projects and need to ensure we deliver on our commitments \u2013 which we are on track to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Installation of mechanical and electrical works have begun, which means there will be a major ramp up of resources and activity on both sites over the coming months.<\/p>\n
