St Mary\u2019s Catholic College students and staff took part in a casual clothes day recently to raise money for a new concept called the OrangeSky Laundry.<\/p>\n

This initiative was founded in July 2014 by friends Lucas Patchett and Nicholas Marchesi, past Brisbane Catholic Education students.<\/p>\n

The mobile laundry provides practical help for the homeless by providing a service to wash their clothes.<\/p>\n

The business\u2019s main aims are to raise health standards, restore respect and reduce the strain for homeless people.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s expensive work. Each OrangeSky laundry van, fully equipped with washers and dryers, costs more than $70,000 to buy and fit out.<\/p>\n

At present, they have vans operating in Brisbane, at the Gold Coast and in Melbourne and they plan to roll out vans across the nation in the next couple of months.<\/p>\n

The colour scheme for the day at St Mary’s was obviously orange, and students needed little encouragement to get into the theme.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Several staff also went out of their way to also support the cause.<\/p>\n

In total, $763 was collected.<\/p>\n

The school\u2019s effort will be added to the other 137 schools across the Brisbane Catholic Archdiocese with the aim of raising enough for at least one van or possibly two.<\/p>\n
