About 80 people tucked into a Chinese banquet at the Nanango Cultural Centre on Friday night as part of a fundraiser to help restore a local icon.<\/p>\n

Nanango’s Catholic Church will be celebrating its centenary in 2017 and the local parish community has been working hard to make sure the church building is looking its best.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the exterior of the building had a facelift, assisted by a $42,339 grant from the Heritage Nanango Community Fund.<\/p>\n

Now the parishioners, assisted by other members of the Nanango community, are raising funds to repair the inside of the historic building.<\/p>\n

“We are looking at raising some money tonight to paint the inside of the church,” parish priest Fr Nigel Sequeira said.<\/p>\n

“But this is also a community event to bring people together.”<\/p>\n

While the diners enjoyed food prepared and served by volunteers, there was live entertainment on stage provided by local singers and musicians.<\/p>\n
