Our local schools also do a wonderful job supporting Meals on Wheels \u2013 including Kingaroy SHS, Saint Mary\u2019s and Saint John\u2019s Lutheran College<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Each year the wonderful work of our Meals on Wheels volunteers is celebrated at a special morning tea, and this year it was held in Kingaroy on September 10.<\/p>\n

The venue was the Kingaroy Senior Citizens Centre, which also happens to be the home of Kingaroy and District Meals On Wheels.<\/p>\n

These volunteers make sure vulnerable people in our community receive wholesome, regular meals, and we certainly couldn\u2019t do without them.<\/p>\n

At this year’s morning tea, special certificates were presented to Joyce Smith (past president of Nanango Meals on Wheels) for her 33 years service; Merv Wolski and Lorraine Crawford for 30 years service; and Margaret Shanahan for 25 years service.<\/p>\n

Between them, these four remarkable people have delivered more almost 120 years of volunteer service to the local community – what an incredible achievement!<\/p>\n

Margie Hams (Partners In Recovery) and Nik George (Mental Health) helped organise Kingaroy's annual RUOK Day free community breakfast, which was held outside my electorate office on Thursday, September 10<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

RUOK Day Community Breakfast<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This week’s RUOK Day was the fourth year my office has hosted the annual RUOK free community breakfast to raise awareness about mental health.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was also the sixth year I have been personally involved in RUOK Day activities.<\/p>\n

Access to better mental health services in regional areas like ours has always been a priority for me, and it’s one I will continue to push on behalf of our community.<\/p>\n

It was wonderful to have Crow FM broadcasting live – they always do such a great job of supporting RUOK Day – along with organisers Margie Hams and Nik George from Partners in Recovery and Tim Saal from Rural and Remote Mental Health.<\/p>\n

As has been the case for many years now, the breakfast was sponsored by Stanwell Corporation, and they deserve a big “thank you” for the support they give this event.<\/p>\n

So do the great people from the Rotary Club of Kingaroy, who served up all the breakfasts.<\/p>\n

RUOK day is all about people taking the time to ask “are you okay?”.<\/p>\n

It’s a simple question, but it could help save a life.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Town Hall was packed out with books on September 5-6 for the Taabinga Rotary Club's annual Bookarama, which is popular with book-lovers all over the region<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Bookarama Was A Blast!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Another great event I attended recently was the Taabinga Rotary Club’s annual Bookarama at Kingaroy Town Hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Taabinga Rotary have been running Bookarama for many years now as a fundraiser for their community projects, and this year’s event was book heaven for book lovers across the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

There were an unbelievable amount of books up for grabs in Kingaroy Town Hall, and three local authors also attended this year to do a meet and greet with fans.<\/p>\n

And outside, shifts of Rotarians manned the barbecues right through the weekend to provide refreshments.<\/p>\n

Well done, Taabinga Rotary!<\/p>\n
