September 9, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Mary\u2019s Catholic College celebrated Book Week – “Books Light Up Our World” – with two big events: a dress-up parade and mass reading event, and the popular Campfire Stories night.<\/p>\n

Prep to Year 6 students came dressed as their favourite book characters for the annual Book Week parade.<\/p>\n

Staff members were dressed as pirates to support the book, \u201cPortside Pirates\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Mary Knoll Centre was a magnificent sight to see, with an array of colourful costumes and smiling faces.<\/p>\n

Among the dress-ups were Frozen characters, Spiderman, princesses, Fancy Nancy, Minions and Pony Pals.<\/p>\n

The audience was kept entertained by the pirates doing a dance to the song \u201cPortside Pirates\u201d.<\/p>\n

Students were given a bookmark to commemorate the occasion, followed by a mass reading event for 15 minutes on the oval where younger students buddied up with older students to share their favourite books.<\/p>\n

On the Wednesday night, students, teachers and parents came dressed in their pyjamas and “onesies” to listen to a range of stories and entertaining songs.<\/p>\n

It was a wonderful night with a cosy fire, great musical talent and storytelling skills. Milk and cookies were served to conclude the night and was a welcome treat for students.<\/p>\n

During the week, students enjoyed a variety of lunchtime activities and daily guest readers.<\/p>\n

Each primary class worked on a big display for the library using some of the short-listed books as their focus.<\/p>\n

Reading levels have been high and has culminated in all students meeting the Premier\u2019s Reading challenge from Prep-Year 7.<\/p>\n

This has been a huge achievement for students and it has been a pleasure to see the value and benefits of reading in our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
