A bunch of Nanango State High School Year 9 students glammed up and enjoyed a posh five-course dinner recently … all part of their high school curriculum.<\/p>\n

The 54 students, accompanied by nine teachers, held their traditional Etiquette Dinner at Nanango’s Copper Country Restaurant.<\/p>\n

Year 9 co-ordinator Jo Perrett said the dinner was part of the school’s CEALS program (Career Education and Life Skills).<\/p>\n

The students cover various lifeskills during the program, including social etiquette, “netiquette”, dress sense and skin care.<\/p>\n

Before the dinner, they were taught about how tables are laid, what knife to use and how to behave at a formal dinner.<\/p>\n

“The dinner is also a reward. Only those students which have upheld the values of the school are invited to attend,” Jo said.<\/p>\n

She said the dinner was “quite a tradition” at the school which was originally held in the school’s home economics building.<\/p>\n

“The students really look forward to it,” Jo said.<\/p>\n

Copper Country’s Nigel and Kerri Southee put on a five-course meal for the students to enjoy – and even provided notes to help them make the most of the experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kerri also spoke to them at school before the night to explain menu terms with which they may not be familiar.<\/p>\n

The menu included such items as “slow-braised pork belly with maple balsamic glaze” and “coconut cream panna cotta with mango coulis” to\u00a0 introduce the students to the world of fine dining.<\/p>\n

As soon as they entered the dining room, the young gentlemen pulled out the chairs for the young ladies, and then stood until all the women were seated.<\/p>\n

They all seem to have learned their etiquette skills very well …<\/p>\n
