If you’re not living on a farm, you may think the drought is over … but it’s not, and the stress is still taking its toll on many local families.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the South Burnett Regional Council was successful in receiving a grant from the State Government for drought support.<\/p>\n

Since then Council has been working with groups in seven local rural areas to deliver a community function in each to build local community connection and resilience.<\/p>\n

Kumbia was one of the first towns to embrace the idea and held its “Down With Drought” event on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

A committee was set up, which consisted of Cr Ros Heit and members of the Kumbia Hall Committee, the Kumbia Kindy and the Kumbia Progress Association, to plan the function.<\/p>\n

Cr Heit said 150 local residents enjoyed a delicious meal and shared in a range of lucky door prizes.<\/p>\n

“Each family took home a goodie bag with information on sourcing support as well as a first aid kit,” Cr Heit said.<\/p>\n

“A licensed bar was run by the Kumbia hotel with all profits going back to the three Kumbia groups.<\/p>\n

“The Rantan band provided the entertainment and a fabulous time was had by all.”<\/p>\n
