Nanango police believe at least some of a recent string of break-ins in the town are linked, with money for drugs being the likely motivation.<\/p>\n

Sergeant\u00a0 Jason Newton, officer-in-charge of Nanango police, said there had been nine break-ins during August.<\/p>\n

He said the majority of the offences had occurred in town although one had happened at Booie.<\/p>\n

One home – which was vacant because it was undergoing renovations – was targeted twice in just five days.<\/p>\n

The thieves have gained entry on each occasion by smashing windows.<\/p>\n

Two of the buildings targeted on one night were the Nanango Bowls Club and the Nanango Pool.<\/p>\n

Items stolen during the break-ins have included cash and alcohol, as well as power tools which can either be easily turned into cash or traded for drugs.<\/p>\n

Sgt Newton said police had been very active tracking down the thieves, and a number of stolen items had been retrieved.<\/p>\n

However, no charges have been laid as yet.<\/p>\n

He said property crime was a community problem that required a community solution.<\/p>\n

“Work with us to help solve and prevent crime in the South Burnett,” he said.<\/p>\n

Sgt Newton’s suggestions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Lock your homes and vehicles, even if you’re only going to be out for a short time. \u00a0Don\u2019t give the crooks an even chance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • If you\u2019re a weapons licence holder, check to ensure your firearms are secured in accordance with regulations. It\u2019s too late once an insecure firearm has made its way into\u00a0the hands of a criminal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Lock away items of value such as quad\/trail bikes, lawn mowers or power tools. \u00a0Ensure your shed or garage doors are closed and locked.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • If you see anything in your neighbourhood that appears suspicious, report it to police. It may be the piece of the puzzle needed to solve a crime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
