Nanango Stamp Club members were delighted to receive a $1000 grant from Nanango’s Heritage Community Branch recently<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Nanango’s Heritage Community Branch recently gave the South Burnett’s only official philatelic club its stamp of approval.<\/p>\n

Heritage awarded a $1000 community grant to the Nanango Stamp Club to help support the club’s popular annual Stamp Fair.<\/p>\n

“Heritage Bank in Nanango is well known for its ongoing support of local community activities,” president Graham Coombe said.<\/p>\n

“We’re very grateful for their assistance.”<\/p>\n

Graham believes most families have a stamp album buried somewhere in their cupboards.<\/p>\n

“Most of us, at some stage, have collected stamps,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It was once one of the most popular hobbies in the world, particularly for children.”<\/p>\n

And despite the fact that electronic communications have now overtaken postal mail, stamp collecting is currently going through a resurgence, with collections being handed down from one generation to another, creating interest and wonder in stamps from all around the world.<\/p>\n

Those who collected stamps in their younger days often find renewed enjoyment revisiting their previous hobby and adding to, or completing, their collections.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Stamp Club was started in 1987 by Nanango’s postmaster at that time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It quickly grew to became one of the larger regional clubs in the state, and is now an affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council.<\/p>\n

Today the club has members from all over the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Not only do they collect stamps themselves, but they exchange stamps with fellow collectors in other countries.<\/p>\n

“Surprisingly, much of this is now done via the internet. But it’s a lot of fun!” Graham said.<\/p>\n

Every February the club hosts a Stamp Fair which attracts collectors from all over the state.<\/p>\n

The next Stamp Fair will be held on February 6 at Nanango High School.<\/p>\n

Club members also visit other stamp fairs all around South East Queensland with the club’s stamp exchange books to sell, buy and exchange stamps with other clubs.<\/p>\n

Nanango Stamp Club members meet on the second Saturday of each month, and the club also produces a monthly newsletter.<\/p>\n
