A high-set timber home in the Marshlands \/ Mondure area was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Urban and rural firefighters were called to the building, in McConnel Way, about 2:00am.<\/p>\n

They found the building fully involved in flames and the iron roof partially collapsed.<\/p>\n

The sole occupant of the building had escaped the blaze and was not injured.<\/p>\n

The man told firefighters he was asleep when the fire started, but was awoken by his cat and a fire alarm.<\/p>\n

Fire crews had the main fire extinguished at 3:46am but spent another two hours at the site dampening down hot spots and ensuring the area was safe.<\/p>\n

Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.<\/p>\n

The incident is the fourth house fire to occur in the region in the last eight days.<\/p>\n

On August 12, a house in Millar Street, Yarraman, was destroyed by fire and a building in Toomey Street was damaged; and on Tuesday afternoon a house at Faulkners Road, Booie, burned down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
