Labor has endorsed Barcaldine health worker David Kerrigan as the candidate for Maranoa in the upcoming Federal election.<\/p>\n

The former shearer has lived in the electorate all his life, and moved to Barcaldine 32 years ago.<\/p>\n

He will be officially launching his campaign for the seat at 6:00pm on Tuesday, September 1, at BC’s Bar and Gill Restaurant (the Bungil Creek Motel) in Roma.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker will be Federal MP and Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs Joel Fitzgibbon.<\/p>\n

Nick Cedric-Thompson contested Maranoa for the ALP at the 2013 Federal Election.<\/p>\n

He received 14,649 primary votes (16.29 per cent)<\/p>\n

After preferences were distributed, he received 27.72 per cent of the vote.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, sitting Member Bruce Scott announced that he would be retiring at the next Federal election.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Scott, who will turn 72 on October 20, has held the Maranoa electorate for the National Party Of Australia for more than 25 years.<\/p>\n

The LNP has yet to announce a candidate to take Mr Scott’s place.<\/p>\n
