Wooroolin Lions Club has come up with a novel way to raise funds and have some fun … and they hope they’re going to be “swamped” with participants.<\/p>\n

The club is planning a “Paddle 4 Fun” at the Wooroolin Wetlands on Saturday, September 12.<\/p>\n

The family fun day will see non-powered watercraft paddling about four kilometres around the flooded swamp, all carrying at least one rubber duck (although more than one duck is allowed on board).<\/p>\n

The ducks, which can be bought for $10 at the start of the day, will receive a “secret” mark at various checkpoints as the paddlers circumnavigate the wetlands.<\/p>\n

Once the duck has received all its checks it will go into the prize barrel for the draw. First prize is $500 cash and there will also be a number of multi-draws to follow with other great prizes.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is BYO canoe, kayak, surfski etc day and anyone can enter (although children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult).<\/p>\n

You must also bring along your own safety gear (Queensland regulations) – and wear shoes!<\/p>\n

Nominations will open at 9:30am and paddlers are expected back in by 2:30pm.<\/p>\n

The day will also include market stalls, a jumping castle and a barbecue lunch.<\/p>\n

A bar will also be operating at the Wooroolin Sports Ground.<\/p>\n

“The swamp overflowed in the 2013 floods,” club president Noel Weller said.<\/p>\n

“Nobody can recall or has any knowledge of it ever overflowing before. It has spent more of its history dry that it has holding water.<\/p>\n

“Wooroolin Lions want to make use of this unique natural feature while it still has a significant body of water (in it).”<\/p>\n
