Three Kingaroy State High School students have earned a 40 per cent scholarship to Bond University to study law after winning the 2015 grand final of the prestigious Bond University High Schools Mooting Competition.<\/p>\n

Zoe Basham (senior counsel), Mikhaela Williams (junior counsel) and Tahnia Miller (instructing solicitor) won the Toowoomba Regional round of the competition before competing in the semi-finals at Bond University on August 1.<\/p>\n

They defeated Hillcrest Christian College to earn a spot in the Grand Final against\u00a0 Brisbane Boys Grammar School.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy trio argued their case in front of current Appeals Court judge Mr Justice Robert Gotterson, AO, former District Court Judge John Newton, and Bond University Assistant Professor Louise Parsons.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well as being part of the winning team,\u00a0 junior counsel Mikhaela Williams was also named Best Advocate for the Grand Final.<\/p>\n

A moot is a legal argument conducted before judges.\u00a0The contest is decided by assessing the advocacy skills of the participants.<\/p>\n

More than 120 schools from South Australia, Victoria, NSW and Queensland entered the competition.<\/p>\n

Previous winners have included St Joseph’s Brisbane (Gregory Terrace); St Aloysius College, Sydney; St Ignatius College (Riverview) and Newington College, Sydney.<\/p>\n
