Southern Queensland Country – the Regional Tourism Organisation responsible for the South Burnett as well as most of southern and western Queensland – will benefit from $347,000 in funding to support tourism and events in the region.<\/p>\n

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the funding was part of Tourism and Events Queensland\u2019s contestable funding program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis funding will help Southern Queensland Country Tourism deliver an autumn marketing campaign strategy,\u201d Ms Jones said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project will encourage Brisbane residents and key interstate markets to travel throughout autumn, extending the destination\u2019s traditionally popular winter season and highlighting the distinct seasons and regional flavours of the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegional partners will contribute $158,659 towards the project as part of this year\u2019s program, attracting $188,253 in contestable grant funding from the government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Jones said the Contestable Grants Funding Scheme supported the State\u2019s Regional Tourism Organisations in leveraging local opportunities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe successful applications focus on marketing, experience development, industry and community collaboration, as well as achieving value-for-money through contributions from regional partners,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said the region would also benefit from funding provided to the Outback Queensland Tourism Association for marketing the Outback and Southern Queensland Country destinations to New Zealand travellers.<\/p>\n
