The State Government is seeking public input about “puppy farms” and the future regulation of dog breeding in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said it was everyone\u2019s responsibility to ensure dog welfare remained a priority, and called on Queenslanders to put forward their thoughts and ideas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was in Opposition, I made a commitment that a Palaszczuk Labor Government would shut down cruel puppy farms, and I\u2019m determined to deliver on that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA puppy farm is a dog breeder who places profits above the welfare of their animals by housing or keeping dogs in conditions that fail to meet the dog\u2019s behavioural, social, psychological and physical needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnimal welfare groups and the community has voiced concerns about the increasing number of puppy farms in Queensland, and the welfare of dogs if they are not managed appropriately.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to hear from Queenslanders about how these puppy farms impact on local communities and what we can all do to get rid of them once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Agriculture Minister Bill Byrne said the feedback the government received would help shape how puppy farms and dog breeding in Queensland were regulated.<\/p>\n

The consultation will run until the close of business on September 6.<\/p>\n
