Treasurer Curtis Pitt has re-assured drought-affected Queenslanders the State Government will continue its drought assistance programs “as required”.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrought assistance is an economic lifeline for our farmers and primary producers, and we\u2019ll keep our existing programs in place as large parts of the State remain drought-affected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe longstanding Uniform Tariff Policy will also remain in place, ensuring regional Queenslanders pay the same amount for electricity as residents in the south-east.”<\/p>\n

Mr Pitt said Ergon Energy had also given a “reprieve” to farmers in Banana Shire, Gladstone, the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, the North Burnett and Gympie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cErgon has waived the fixed charge component of electricity bills for more than 1500 accounts for farmers since April 30,” he said.<\/p>\n
