Ergon Energy has begun its search for apprentices to start work in 2016.<\/p>\n

Chief Executive Ian McLeod said Ergon was calling for expressions of interest across all of its depots in regional Queensland.<\/p>\n

Mr McLeod said 61 apprentices were taken on this year, and next year’s intake would be larger.<\/p>\n

“Our apprenticeships are mostly offered to local people so they can develop their skills while remaining in the community with their family and friends,” Mr McLeod said.<\/p>\n

He said the apprenticeships were a great opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn an in-demand trade.<\/p>\n

“Each year we employ a mix of school-leavers, mature age applicants, people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent and we have a strong focus on female candidates,” he said.<\/p>\n

Apprenticeships are available in a range of trades: communications technician, distribution linesperson, transmission linesperson, mechanical fitter and electrotechnology electrician.<\/p>\n

Several apprenticeships will be offered in conjunction with Diploma or Associate Degree courses.<\/p>\n

Expressions of interest close on August 16.<\/p>\n
