Murgon Orcas swimming club’s 2014-15 Swimmer of the Year, James Hadley, has been awarded funding under the latest round of the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions program.<\/p>\n

James will use the grant to help him take part in the Queensland 10-12 Swimming Team at the Pacific School Games in Adelaide in November.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Wide Bay, Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss, said 17 sporting representatives had been given grants in the Wide Bay electorate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese young men and women are to be commended on distinguishing themselves by participating in State and national championships. I hope that this funding assists them to take the next steps towards achieving their sporting goals,\u201d Mr Truss said.<\/p>\n

The Local Sporting Champions program helps by providing grants of $500 to help meet the costs of participating in sporting events, including travel, equipment, uniforms and accommodation.<\/p>\n
