Students at the Murgon Judo Club are learning how to have a healthier outlook on food and alcohol at the same time as they learn a martial art.<\/p>\n

The Murgon Judo Club has been awarded Level 2 accreditation as part of the Good Sports Healthy Eating program.<\/p>\n

The club received the accreditation this week for their work promoting better nutrition and alcohol management.<\/p>\n

Good Sports Healthy Eating is an Australian Drug Foundation community program to promote healthy food and drinks within sports clubs.<\/p>\n

The program has combined and built on the success of the original Good Sports program and Food for Sport: Health Food and Drink Guidelines for Sporting Clubs.<\/p>\n

It is a joint Australian, State and Territory Government initiative.<\/p>\n

Queensland’s Good Sports Healthy Eating program is all about making gradual changes to the management of alcohol and provision of food within the club to build a healthier, safer, family-friendly environment.<\/p>\n

Sensei Stan Munday said that Good Sports was helping to promote positive messages and examples around food and alcohol.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Damien Shea, Good Sports State Manager for Queensland, said the program was helping to build healthier sports clubs throughout the region.<\/p>\n

“By participating in Good Sports Healthy Eating, the Murgon Judo Club is demonstrating their continued commitment to providing a safe, healthy and fun environment for players, families and the community,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Alcohol, tobacco and obesity together are the three main contributors to disability and death in Australia.<\/p>\n

That’s why they’re the focus of the Queensland Good Sports Healthy Eating program.”<\/p>\n
