The Red Ants’ women’s team demolished Kawana in the U16s to earn a spot in the semi-finals<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

July 30, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy’s T.J. O’Neill Oval hosted two women’s rugby league matches last Friday … an U16s and an U14s clash between Kingaroy and Kawana.<\/p>\n

The U16 women were playing for a spot in the semi-finals of the Sunshine Coast competition, so the game was fast and tough.<\/p>\n

The Red Ants dominated the night, ahead 20-8 at half-time and 48-8 when the final siren sounded.<\/p>\n

Tries were scored by Sheryl-Lee Barnes (2), Shehara Broderick (2), Lashonda Langton, Keisha Carstairs, Maddie Blair, Ana Toseni and Abe-Lee Stanley. Chantelle Law (4) and Tazma Dolan (2) kicked the conversions.<\/p>\n

Kawana’s eight points all came via Melanie Watherston who converted her own penalty try.<\/p>\n

Ouch … We’re not sure if the Kawana player was in pain from the tackle or the fact that Keisha Carstairs had just scored for Kingaroy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Earlier in the evening, the Red Ants U14s women’s side came up against a bigger and stronger Kawana team (some of who later turned out in the U16s match).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The match was played across-field with a much shorter and narrower playing area.<\/p>\n

Maddie Carstairs scored Kingaroy’s sole points.<\/p>\n

The game was called off, as per Sunshine Coast competition rules, when the score reached 52-4.<\/p>\n
