The Southern Stars have suffered a four-wicket defeat in the first ODI in the Women’s Ashes series, played at the County Ground in Taunton on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Australian team – in their first competitive match for eight months – batted first and finished with 9\/238.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy’s Holly Ferling, batting at 11, faced just the one ball and ended not out 1.<\/p>\n

Veteran Elyse Perry top-scored with 78, extending her world-record run of consecutive one-day international half-centuries to six.<\/p>\n

In reply, England lost early wickets but a strong middle order stand enabled them to overtake the Australian target in the 46th over, finishing 6\/240.<\/p>\n

Ferling bowled as second change, finishing with figures of 0\/42 off her seven overs.<\/p>\n
