The RACQ is calling for all drivers to undergo mandatory re-testing when they renew their licences.<\/p>\n

The motoring and insurance group says more than half of all drivers it surveyed supported a sitting a mandatory road rule refresher test before they renewed their licence.<\/p>\n

The group said 53 per cent of people surveyed believed re-sitting a theory test would be beneficial, and the majority of those in favour said it should be based on time behind the wheel, rather than age.<\/p>\n

RACQ spokesman Steve Spalding said the results of the research were surprising.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s vital drivers keep up to date with the road rules, and we\u2019re impressed that so many Queenslanders see the value in this,\u201d Mr Spalding said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe survey reveals motorists believe a refresher test every five years when renewing their licence is one way to keep them educated.<\/p>\n

\u201cRACQ is not in favour of motorists re-sitting a practical driving test, however completing a theory test can be as simple as an electronic questionnaire.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor your own safety and the safety of other road users there\u2019s no excuse for not knowing and following the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Spalding said the RACQ would submit the research to the State Government\u2019s Road Safety Action Plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to continually re-evaluate the way we approach licencing to ensure the safest possible outcome for all road users.\u201d<\/p>\n
