The annual Mini Mod Carnival, organised by the Wondai-Proston Junior Rugby League, had everything a South Burnett footy fan could desire.<\/p>\n

The non-stop games on Saturday featured teams from across the Burnett and Sunshine Coast, and shone a spotlight on the league stars of the future.<\/p>\n

And the final game, for the second year in a row, was between two South Burnett teams: Wondai and Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

In action on the back fields at Wondai Sportsground were U7s, U8s and U10s.<\/p>\n

But most eyes were on the U12s on the main oval. The action just kept on coming with back-to-back games separated by just one minute.<\/p>\n

The football was very close … demonstrated by the number of drawn matches.<\/p>\n

As the day drew to a close, there were several teams in the running for the final which added even more excitement to the last few games (and more yelling from the grandstand).<\/p>\n

Last year’s champions, Nanango, just missed out.<\/p>\n

The Stags needed to score five tries in their final game against the Maryborough Wallaroos to earn the bonus points they needed.<\/p>\n

The youngsters tried hard, downing the Wallaroos 16-12 in an exciting game but managed only four tries.<\/p>\n

After a long day of football, the host team Wondai ended up drawn with Kingaroy on 17 points, which meant an evenly matched final.<\/p>\n

In the end, the Red Ants scored three tries to Wondai’s double in a very close game.<\/p>\n

NB. In Mini Mod, the games are shortened, and have modified rules; there are no goals and no scrums.<\/p>\n
