Kingaroy police will be keeping a close eye on school zones to catch speeding motorists<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kingaroy police will be out in force over the next week as part of the back-to-school crackdown on speeding drivers.<\/p>\n

Acting Senior Sergeant Brent Gerber said today police would be patrolling school zones to ensure motorists kept to the speed limit.<\/p>\n

He said police also conducted 98 random breath tests over the weekend in the Kingaroy area. No drink drivers were detected but eight infringement notices were issues for other offences.<\/p>\n

All Queensland fines have just gone up.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since 2000, “penalty units” – the basis for how most fines are calculated – have risen from $70 to $113.85.<\/p>\n

On July 1, they rose again to $117.80.<\/p>\n

For example, the penalty for driving without due care and attention is a maximum of 40 penalty units or six months jail; therefore the maximum fine for the offence is now $4712.<\/p>\n

A 20-year-old man has received a $117 on-the-spot fine for public urination.<\/p>\n
