The Peanut Foundation – the research arm of the American Peanut Council –\u00a0will be holding its 8th International Conference in Brisbane later this year.<\/p>\n

The not-for-profit group fund international peanut research including \u00a0the Peanut Genomics Initiative which is mapping the peanut genome and attempting to identify genetic markers for disease resistance, nutrition, drought resistance, and aflatoxin resistance.<\/p>\n

The “Advances In Arachis Through Genomics and Biotechnology<\/a><\/strong>” conference will be held at Rydges Hotel from November 5-7.<\/p>\n

The organising committee consists of researchers from Australia, the United States, China, Japan, India and Senegal and is chaired by Dr Graeme Wright from the Peanut Company of Australia (PCA).<\/p>\n

Also involved are a lot of people whose names would be familiar to South Burnett peanut growers: Dan O’Connor (UQ), Toni Cohen (PCA), Dr Rao (RCN) Rachaputi (UQ) and Kylie Wenham (UQ).<\/p>\n

The conference will discuss the Peanut Genomics Initiative, genetic trait mapping and crop improvement.<\/p>\n

On November 8, delegates have been invited to visit the South Burnett for a tour of PCA’s plant processing plant in Kingaroy and a bus trip to the Bunya Mountains National Park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
