Cherbourg Health Service Manager Tarita Fisher has been presented with a prestigious award as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations.<\/p>\n

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service Board member Cheryl Dalton presented Tarita with the DDHHS “Recognition of Excellence in Service” award at the Health Expo held at Cherbourg on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis DDHHS-wide award recognises the exceptional work of one Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander staff member,\u201d Mrs Dalton said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received nominations for this year\u2019s awards from right across our health service which stretches from the South Burnett, down to Goondiwindi in the south and west to Taroom and Wandoan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe award is an opportunity to highlight and acknowledge the outstanding work being done by our staff members to provide excellent health care in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

A panel of three DDHHS staff members considered each of the 18 nominations to look for a person who was inspirational, made a significant impact to health care in their work, went above and beyond their role and was respected by their colleagues and clients.<\/p>\n

Tarita was recognised for her dedication and drive to improve the health of her community.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor Tarita, Cherbourg is not just a work place. It is a home. She has a deep spiritual connection to this town and its people,\u201d Mrs Dalton said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis connection drives her work and we, as a health service, benefit from this connection every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Awards were also presented across the DDHHS area to non-Indigenous staff members who have worked hard to support Aboriginal communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These staff members were nominated by their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues.<\/p>\n

In the South Burnett, “Recognition of Excellence in Service Delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander\u00a0Community” \u00a0awards were presented to Taygen Tucker in Kingaroy and clinical nurse Sharon Lock in Cherbourg.<\/p>\n

Sharon was nominated by Community Health Manager\u00a0Christine Stewart for her dedication to immunisation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
