The junior Eagles looked eager and Murgon Showgrounds looked a treat for the kick-off on Monday morning of the 50th anniversary 43kg junior rugby league carnival.<\/p>\n

This is the first major event held at the grounds since the South Burnett Regional Council recently finished refurbishing the grandstand.<\/p>\n

Teams from across Queensland and NSW are taking part in the competition, which will run all week.<\/p>\n

Visitors are staying at the grounds and in Murgon.<\/p>\n

The Carnival began with a march past of all teams and then the official opening ceremony.<\/p>\n

Cr Kathy Duff thanked the organisers for choosing Murgon to host the event, and the visitors for helping to boost the local economy.<\/p>\n

She then urged the young footballers to “play well, play hard and play fair”.<\/p>\n

Barry Fisher, from Cherbourg, welcomed everyone on behalf of the traditional owners.<\/p>\n
